The collection of trumpet and flugelhorn mouthpieces designed with Rubén Salvador, one of the most complete and respected trumpet players on the current scene.

After three months of working hand-in-hand in the workshop, we have achieved four models with the exact specifications Rubén needs to develop his full potential. At musicRioja, we make them available to any musician who wants to play with the same model.

Design with CFD technology and FEM simulation

Rubén came to the workshop with very specific needs: leadpipes with a slight incline and mouthpieces shorter than usual. To respect his playing style, we scanned all his models, analyzed in detail the airflow, curvature, and tuning, and performed FEM simulations to minimize losses and perfect the response. The result is four unique models, optimized from the internal geometry to the last detail:

• Greater tuning stability
• Better control in all registers

Collection Models

• RS Jazz — Expressive, flexible sound with a dynamic palette designed for improvisation and open phrasing. Inner width: 16.45mm.
• RS Commercial / Lead — Defined attack, clean projection, and total stability in the upper register. Inner width: 16.25mm.
• RS Hybrid — The perfect balance between the character of jazz and the power of lead. Inner width: 16.35mm.
• RS Flugelhorn — Enveloping warmth, smooth response, and a timbre that can only be understood when played. Inner width: 16.35mm.

Materials and Manufacturing

Manufactured using 3D printing with high-precision thermoplastic polymer, certified safe for skin contact. The rim is completely smooth and polished, ensuring soft, comfortable, and safe contact during prolonged use. Unlike metal mouthpieces, it reduces the risk of irritation from extended contact.

About Rubén Salvador

A graduate in Classical and Jazz Trumpet, Rubén Salvador has worked with some of the best teachers and soloists in the world: Wynton Marsalis, Randy Brecker, Tim Haggans, Joe Magnarelli, Walter White, Chris Kase, Bob Sands, Jordi Rossy, and Perico Sambeat, among many others.

As an educator, he has trained generations of students in conservatories in Donostia, Bilbao, Vitoria, and Leioa, and leads projects such as EIJO and benchmark jazz seminars in Spain.

On stage, his versatility is infinite. He has played with Kiko Veneno, Los Enemigos, Xoel López, La M.O.D.A., Izal, Rozalén, Celtas Cortos, Travellin Brothers, Potato, and countless artists spanning from soul and funk to rock, reggae, and Canterbury. His latest work, Equanimity, was selected for JazzEñe 2024 and presented at the Victoria Eugenia Theater in Donosti during the Jazz Festival.

There were weeks of constant iterations, tests, and adjustments, accompanied by unforgettable moments such as EI! Bilbao at the Sports Palace and the presentation in Araia with the Iosu Izaguirre Sextet. The learning has been immense and the gratitude even greater.
